This newly uncovered record sees the legendary jazz trumpeter fuse with soul and funk musicians to create a fusion sound, pushing himself yet again in a new direction. It was originally intended to be his first record for Warner following his departure from Columbia, and was set to feature vocalists including Al Jarreau and Chaka Khan — although these sessions were never completed once the album was shelved. Recorded in 1985-86 and engineered by Reggie Dozier, the album was recently finished by the original producers – Randy Hall and Zane Giles – and Davis’ nephew, Vince Wilburn, Jr., who played drums on the original sessions.
Miles Davis 'Rubberband' is released by Rhino / Warner Bros. Records on September 6.
